Ensuring our Livery horses have plenty to eat whatever the weather, eating our quality home-grown haylage in winter.
WELCOME
Percy Beck Farm is situated on the Southern edge of the Durham Dales overlooking the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It covers 27 acres of permanent pasture which is on free draining sand/silt loam soil over sandstone bedrock. This means it is not deep clay soil so doesn’t become boggy, guarding against mud fever. The land is fed by a free-flowing Beck into which rain and groundwater drain ensuring the land doesn’t become a deep and boggy mud pit. Main gateways and beck access for the animals have been dug out, graded and filled with small. sandstone hardcore to facilitate frequent use by machinery and animals again guarding against excess mud and kind for horses’ feet.
Plans going forward at Percy Beck Farm:
Growing and baling our own haylage for horses in which we have much experience.
Sheep grass let is offered to keep on top of grass growth and grassland management.
Stone wall restoration
Grass Livery for horses
Retirement Livery for horses in their twilight years at the end of their working lives.
Wildflower meadow strips with beehives to produce our own honey.
Further exciting development.
